Student Travel Awards

SEERS offers several Travel Awards for each meeting, including CERF meetings, to qualifying students. The number and value of the awards and the application procedures are announced prior to each meeting. Membership in SEERS is one requirement of qualification, so the best way to stay informed about SEERS awards is to become a member and receive our email messages.

Student Presentation Awards

At each regular meeting, SEERS offers awards for the best student presentations in the following categories:

  • Best Graduate Student Oral Presentation
  • Best Undergraduate Student Oral Presentation
  • Best Graduate Student Poster Presentation
  • Best Undergraduate Student Poster Presentation

Winners receive a certificate and a student membership in our parent organization, CERF.

Non-students attending SEERS meetings are asked to consider volunteering to judge a few student presentations. Student participation is one of SEERS’ main focus areas, and we need judges to help make this a successful part of our meetings.

3-3-3 Award

This award of $33.30 is for the poster most easily understood by a viewer within three minutes, from three feet away, possibly after three beers, thus encouraging clarity of presentation. The science must still be sound, with conclusions clearly stated and supported by results. In a twist on the usual poster competition, this competition is open to all posters (except those presented by SEERS Board members) and is judged by the students, giving them the opportunity to develop reviewing skills. All student attendees are encouraged to serve as judges. More details about the competition criteria are available on the scoring sheet.
