2024 SEERS Meeting – Cheers to 50 Years!

The 2024 meeting of the Southeastern Estuarine Research Society (SEERS) will be in Savannah, GA on March 21-23 2024. Our local hosts are Loren Mathews and Jessica Reichmuth.

Meeting Format:
The meeting will start Thursday evening March 21st with a plenary panel, poster previews, and a hearty reception. The meeting will continue all day Friday (March 22nd) and until midday Saturday (March 23rd) with oral and poster presentations. Posters can remain up the entire time, although judging of student posters will occur during the afternoon Friday. The banquet will be held Friday at Southbound Brewing Company during the evening hours after the poster session.

Early registration and abstract submission is open from Friday, January 19 through Friday, February 23, 2024. Meeting attendees presenting oral or poster presentations will submit their abstract when they register in the Meeting Registration portal

Registration fees include all social events/food/snacks/beverages during the time of the meeting from March 21st through March 23, unless otherwise stated. Registration fees are as follows:

  • Student Member, Early Registration – $100.00
  • Professional Member, Early Registration – $195.00
    SEERSians must log into the Meeting Registration Portal and be in good standing to be recognized as a member to get member registration rates. Renew your membership here. 
  • Student Non-member, Early Registration – $115.00
  • Professional Non-member, Early Registration – $215.00
  • One Day Early Registration, no banquet – $100.00
  • Class Registration, per person, no reception or banquet – $55.00
  • Thursday Evening Reception only – $30.00
    Full Registration includes all social events. This option is for purchasing extra social event tickets for guests. You may purchase extra social event tickets with your registration or afterwards using this option.
  • Friday Evening Banquet only – $60.00
    Full Registration includes all social events. This option is for purchasing extra social event tickets for guests. This rate includes a dinner buffet and 2 drink tickets. You may purchase extra social event tickets with your registration or afterwards using this option.

Late Registration will be allowed without abstracts from February 24 through March 8, 2024. Late registration fees are as follows:

  • Student Member, Late Registration – $115.00
  • Professional Member, Late Registration – $215.00
  • Student Non-member, Late Registration – $130.00
  • Professional Non-member, Late Registration – $230.00

Presentation Format:
Oral Presentations:Oral presentations are limited to a 15 minute time block, which includes a 12 minute talk and 3 minutes for questions. Presentations should be prepared in a Windows compatible format (pptx, ppt, or pdf). Awards will be given for best undergraduate and graduate oral presentations.

Poster Presentations:Posters are limited to a maximum size of 30” wide by 40” tall. Awards will be given for best undergraduate and graduate poster presentations.

Student Travel Awards:
SEERS will be offering approximately four (4) travel awards to help offset the cost and travel to Savannah’s meeting. At this time, we expect the award amount to be around $300. Check back at the Student Travel Award website for more details and application deadline.

SEA Buddy Program:
Is this your first time attending a scientific meeting? Not sure what to expect? That’s okay!
Or, have you attended a scientific meeting before, but want to collaborate with and/or meet other students in the SEERS region? That’s cool, too.

SEERS is looking for both new and experienced SEA Buddies. If you’re interested in participating, check this option when you register. Students can check out check out this page for more information and/or contact our Student Representative.


A block of rooms have been set aside for meeting participants at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in the Savannah Historic District (same location as meeting itself).  All rooms are true suites that include a separate seating/kitchenette area with a sleeper sofa that can be used as an additional bed.  The rate of $206 per night is the same for either a 2 queen bed suite (sleeps 5-6) or 1 king bed suite (sleeps up to 3-4).  The bedroom has a separate door from the seating/kitchenette area.

A full made-to-order breakfast in the hotel restaurant in the lobby is included for all hotel guests. Self parking is available on the hotel grounds at a discounted rate of $18 per day.
