Welcome to our newest SEERS Board President-Elect, Nikki Dix, a Research Director at the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve.
Nikki has been a SEERS member since her first meeting in 2006. She served on the SEERS Board as Member-at-Large from 2014 to 2016 and Secretary from 2017 to 2019. Her research interests involve understanding how estuaries respond to natural and anthropogenic change with the intent of informing natural resource management. Nikki has M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Florida where she studied drivers of water quality in the GTM estuary. As the GTMNERR Research Director, Nikki establishes research priorities and oversees long-term monitoring of weather, water quality, plankton, oysters, and coastal wetlands. Nikki also facilitates activities of visiting researchers (faculty and students) and works to develop collaborations between scientists, managers, educators, and the public. As SEERS President-Elect, Nikki looks forward to continuing efforts that promote student success while also attracting and engaging interdisciplinary professionals throughout the Southeast.
