SEERS Seeks Member Input Regarding Diversity
Please reply by July 15: The SEERS Governing Board affirms our commitment to an all-inclusive scientific community and we stand in support and solidarity with the BIPOC community. We also recognize that words are not enough and it is by actions that we demonstrate our commitment. We are fully committed to actions, actions that arise from an open conversation with our members. Our SEERS Diversity Committee has been charged with exploring what we as a Society can do and will be developing a list of tangible actions that SEERS can do to improve equity and equality, inclusivity, and diversity in southeastern estuary sciences. We hope to share these actions with you so that our Society can hold itself accountable to these actions.
Our SEERS Diversity Committee has proposed two requests to our members:
- Our members are the core of our Society and we value your insight and suggestions. Please check your member email for a link to provide feedback if you would like to reach out to us regarding your experiences or suggestions on ways SEERS can become more inclusive.
- We call upon our members who may be interested in being a part of the Diversity Committee. We are planning to hold a virtual informational meeting on the roles and responsibilities of the Committee and its members. If you are interested in participating please check your member email for a link to sign up for the virtual meeting.
We plan to move forward with these requests in a short time-frame. We hope that our members can answer these calls by July 15th and sincerely appreciate all members taking this in consideration.
